How to use these pages
- Learn the question each test answers before memorizing subtest names — exam items almost always ask which tool fits a referral.
- Note the age range. Most "wrong tool" distractors are simply out of range for the client described.
- Know each test's limitations. The keyed answer is frequently the supplemental measure that offsets a standardized test's bias or blind spot.

The OASES measures the whole experience of stuttering rather than speech fluency itself.

Stuttering Severity Instrument, Fourth Edition
The SSI-4 measures observable stuttering severity by scoring three dimensions from recorded speech samples: frequency of stuttered syllables, average duration of the three longest stuttering events, and physical concomitants such as facial grimaces or head movements.
