Praxis Path vs. ASHA Praxis Prep: All-in-One vs. Question Bank
ASHA's question bank feels official — but it's a bank, not a course. Here's how it compares to a purpose-built all-in-one platform.
Cross-checked against the current ETS Praxis 5331 Speech-Language Pathology Test at a Glance and ASHA CCC-SLP standards.
ASHA's Praxis Prep (sometimes bundled with the Khan Academy / Pearson question bank ASHA promotes to student members) is the "official-feeling" option. It's affiliated with the credentialing body, so candidates assume it must be the gold standard. The reality is more nuanced. Here's how ASHA's prep stacks up against Praxis Path, and when each one makes sense.
Quick verdict
- Pick ASHA Praxis Prep if you specifically want a question bank tied to the credentialing body's branding and you're willing to combine it with a separate content-review resource.
- Pick Praxis Path if you want an all-in-one system: content modules, 400+ scenario questions, a full-length mock, and adaptive flashcards built by SLPs — for a single $49 lifetime fee.
Side-by-side comparison
| Feature | ASHA Praxis Prep | Praxis Path |
|---|---|---|
| Content modules | Limited / external | 40+ structured modules |
| Practice questions | ~120 (varies by year) | 400+ with rationales |
| Full-length mock | One attempt | Unlimited attempts |
| Adaptive flashcards | No | Yes, spaced repetition |
| PDF study guide | No | Yes, downloadable |
| Access duration | Time-limited (typically 90 days) | Lifetime |
| Price (non-member) | $60–$80+ | $49 |
| Money-back guarantee | No | 30-day |
Where ASHA's prep is genuinely useful
The ASHA-affiliated question bank tends to do a reasonable job mirroring the clinical-scenario style of real ETS items — better than most generalist publishers. If you're already an ASHA NSSLHA member and qualify for the discounted rate, the question bank alone can be a worthwhile add-on to whatever your primary prep is.
Where it falls short
- It's a question bank, not a course. There's no structured content review walking you from cranial nerves through dysphagia stages through AAC candidacy. You're expected to already know the material — the bank just tests you.
- Time-limited access. Most ASHA-affiliated question bank subscriptions expire in 90 days. If life happens and you delay your test date, you re-pay.
- Single mock attempt. You typically get one shot at the full-length practice exam. If you want to re-test after weak-area drilling, you've already burned it.
- No flashcards or PDF guide. You'll need separate tools for spaced repetition and offline review.
Why Praxis Path is the better all-in-one
Praxis Path bundles everything ASHA's prep leaves out: 40+ guided content modules, 400+ application-style questions with full rationales, unlimited mock exam attempts, adaptive flashcards that surface what you keep getting wrong, and a downloadable PDF for offline review. You pay once and keep access — no 90-day countdown.
Our recommendation
If you already feel rock-solid on content (recent grad, strong CSD program, took every elective) and just want extra ETS-flavor question reps, ASHA's bank is fine as a supplement. If you want a single platform that takes you from "what does CN X do again?" to walking into the test confident, Praxis Path is built for exactly that workflow. Combine it with our content area breakdown to plan your first two weeks, then run our 8-week study plan.
