Praxis 5331 Test Center Rules: ID, Arrival, and What to Bring

Arriving at the test center unprepared is one of the fastest ways to lose your exam fee and your test date. ETS has strict identification, arrival, and personal-belonging rules. Reviewing them before test day removes a source of anxiety and protects your registration investment.

ID requirements

You must present an acceptable, valid ID at the test center. The name on your ID must match exactly the name under which you registered. Acceptable IDs are generally government-issued documents with your photograph and signature. Examples include a driver’s license, passport, or state ID card. Check the ETS website for the full list of acceptable ID documents for your country.

Expired IDs, photocopies, and digital IDs on a phone are not accepted. If your ID is in a language other than the one expected by the test center, you may need additional documentation. Contact ETS before test day if you are unsure.

Arrival time

ETS recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This gives you time to check in, store personal items, and complete the security procedures. If you arrive late, you may be denied admission and forfeit your test fee.

What you can bring

Test centers provide lockers or secure storage for personal belongings. Generally, you are not allowed to bring phones, watches, calculators, notes, food, or drinks into the testing room. ETS may provide an approved calculator or scratch paper if either is permitted for your test. The Praxis 5331 does not require a calculator.

What happens during check-in

• ID verification: Staff will inspect your ID, compare your photo to your face, and may scan your ID.
• Signature and photo: You will sign in and have a photo taken.
• Personal belongings: You will store everything except your ID and the items the center allows.
• Security scan: Some centers may use a metal detector or ask you to turn out pockets.

What happens if you are late or forget your ID

If you cannot present acceptable ID or arrive after the check-in window closes, you will usually not be allowed to test. You will also typically not receive a refund. This is why it is important to prepare your ID and route to the test center in advance.

At-home testing rules
