Praxis 5331 Score Review / Appeal: Is It Worth It?

If your Praxis 5331 score came back just below the 162 passing threshold, you may be tempted to request a score review or appeal. ETS does offer a score verification service, but it is important to understand what it can and cannot do before you spend the money. In most cases, the better move is a retake — but there are situations where a score review is worth considering.

What ETS score review actually checks

ETS offers a Score Verification service for selected tests, including the Praxis 5331. When you request it, ETS manually verifies that your answer sheet was scored correctly and that all responses were recorded accurately.

• It does not re-evaluate your answers. A reviewer will not decide whether your selected answer was actually correct or whether a borderline item should have counted.

When a score review is worth it

A score review is only worth the cost and wait time in a few narrow situations:

• You scored 161 or 160. One or two scoring errors could theoretically change the outcome. Below that, the gap is too large.
• You had a technical problem on test day. If the screen froze, responses seemed to not register, or the proctor interrupted you, a review is reasonable.
• You took a paper-based test. Scoring errors are more likely with paper answer sheets than with computer-based tests.
