What to Do Right After You Finish the Praxis 5331

You finished the Praxis 5331. What happens in the next hour, the next week, and the next month determines how quickly your license and CCC paperwork actually moves.

The unofficial score at the test center

For the computer-delivered 5331 you typically see an unofficial score on screen at the end of the session, before you leave the center. It is not the document your board or ASHA accepts, but it is normally an accurate preview of your official result. Write it down before you walk out.

Do not re-litigate the exam

Resist the urge to look up the questions you were unsure about. You cannot change the result, and post-exam question hunting is a reliable path to several days of anxiety with no upside. Close the book for at least 24 hours.

Official scores and score recipients

Official scores are posted to your ETS account on a published date, generally within a few weeks of your test date. Score reports go to the recipients you selected at registration. If you forgot to designate your state board, your university, or ASHA, you can order additional score reports for a fee from your account.

If you passed

• Confirm ASHA and your state board received the score directly from ETS.
• Start your CCC application and clinical fellowship paperwork immediately — supervision cannot be counted retroactively without the right forms.
• Check your state's separate licensure application, which is usually not the same process as ASHA certification.

If you did not pass

You can retake the 5331 after the ETS retake waiting period, and second-attempt pass rates are strong for candidates who study from their score report rather than starting over. Use the category-level performance ranges on your report to target the two weakest areas instead of re-reviewing everything.

Keep your documentation

Save a PDF of your official score report. Boards, employers, and future multi-state applications ask for it years later, and retrieving old reports from ETS is slower and sometimes not possible after the retention window.
