Licensing board
Nevada's board issues both provisional (CF) and full SLP licenses and enforces the Praxis 5331 at 162 or higher. Nevada is a compact-friendly market, and endorsement is streamlined for applicants with the ASHA CCC-SLP.

The Nevada SLP market
Nevada licenses Speech-Language Pathologists through the Nevada Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Board. Rapid population growth in Las Vegas and Reno has fueled steady demand for both school-based and medical SLPs, while Nevada's limited number of in-state graduate programs means many licensed SLPs relocate from California, Arizona, and Utah. School-based SLPs in Nevada work under the same board license rather than a separate Department of Education credential.

Passing score note: Nevada accepts the ASHA-set 162 passing score on Praxis 5331, with no state-specific cut score.
The Nevada Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensing Board issues a single license that covers practice in hospitals, clinics, private practice, and public schools — unlike states such as California or Massachusetts that require a separate Department of Education credential. This makes Nevada's licensure structure comparatively simpler for candidates who want to move between settings.
Applicants must verify a CAA-accredited graduate degree, supervised clinical hours, and a passing Praxis 5331 score to the board. Because Nevada has few in-state graduate programs, the board is accustomed to processing transcripts and verification paperwork from out-of-state schools.
New graduates apply for a temporary license to complete the nine-month Clinical Fellowship under a licensed CCC-SLP supervisor. The temporary license is valid for the duration of the CF and must be renewed if the fellowship is extended.
After finishing the CF and filing CF-2 paperwork, the board upgrades the applicant to a full license. Las Vegas's large hospital systems and the Clark County School District, the state's largest school employer, are common CF placement sites.
The Clark County School District in the Las Vegas metro is the largest single employer of SLPs in the state, given its size as one of the largest districts in the country. Hospital systems including Sunrise Hospital, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, and Renown Health in Reno employ SLPs focused on dysphagia, voice, and neurorehabilitation.
Private pediatric therapy clinics have grown quickly in both the Las Vegas and Reno metros to serve the state's rising population. Rural Nevada, including much of the state outside Clark and Washoe counties, has comparatively few SLP positions and often relies on contracted or telepractice services.
Nevada SLP licenses renew every two years through the state board, with continuing education hours required through ASHA CEUs or board-approved coursework. The board reviews renewal applications for completeness and may audit continuing education documentation.
Because Nevada does not require a separate school credential, school-based SLPs only need to track a single renewal cycle and continuing-education requirement, which simplifies compliance compared to states with dual licensing systems.

Earn a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Complete a graduate program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) — the near-universal requirement across US jurisdictions.
Pass the Praxis 5331 with a score of 162 or higher
The Speech-Language Pathology Praxis (5331) is the single national exam accepted by all state boards. 162 is the ASHA-set passing score and every state uses that same cut score.
Complete a Clinical Fellowship (CF)
A 36-week (9-month full-time equivalent) mentored clinical experience under a licensed CCC-SLP. Some states use their own name for it (California calls it the RPE) but the requirement is functionally equivalent.
Submit fingerprints and a background check
Standard across all state boards. Processing typically takes 2–6 weeks and must be completed before the license is issued.
Apply to the state licensing board
Send your Praxis score (ETS score report), transcripts, CF verification, and background clearance to the state board. Some states also require a jurisprudence exam on state SLP practice law.
